Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 10:00 A.M - Philadelphia City Council Committee on Law and Government "will hold a., to hear testimony on Bill 171109 and Resolution 171134 in Room 400 City Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19107. On December 14, 2017, Councilwomen of the Philadelphia City Council introduced Bill 171109 and Resolution 171134 which propose to amend the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter with a provision of mandatory annual sexual harassment training for all City officers and employees.
The purpose of the newly proposed bill and resolution is to better inform, educate, and train City employees to not only be aware of sexual harassment policies in the workplace, but also know how to make certain one’s personal and professional conduct is in alignment with these expectations and standards. Additionally, we want to ensure that all employees are aware of the sexual harassment reporting structure and empowered to not only report their own experiences, but that of others as well. We believe that with better overall employee understanding and knowledge of sexual harassment as well as the policies created to address it, we will both prevent and decrease instances of sexual harassment in the workplace.
This legislation is a significant step in the right direction to ensure that the City of Philadelphia is fostering a workplace environment free of sexual harassment – one that works against gender stereotypes, empowers bystanders, encourages civility, requires serious training, promotes women, encourages reporting, and implements proportional consequences for negative behaviors and offenses."
Thank you, Samantha Pearson for this information.
